About

My name is Rachel. I am in the middle of my adventure of a lifetime. Recently, I quit my job in a career I had been building for 10 years, and relocated from San Francisco to Malta. I am pretty sure it’s safe to say that I am in the midst of a self-proclaimed 1/3 life crisis – not mid-life (I’d like to live to be older than 60…).

My adventure is not all fun and games, though, I am going to school in Malta, working towards my second and third Master degrees. Yup. In nine months time, I will have three Master’s. Overachiever, much?

Prior to leaving for my adventure I was employed as the Director of Branding and Social Media for a collegiate athletic department. Want to know more about the boring stuff? Check out my LinkedIn profile.

I guess maybe I should tell you about some of the non-boring things about me. So, with the help of some Oprah-inspired questions, I give you me.

Hi there – we were both featured on My Sardinian Life’s top 5 expat blogs. I’m only now getting around to checking out the other listings. I look forward to following your expat adventures and sharing stories…I too, quit my career to move abroad. It was a scary and risky move but it was definitely worth it. By the way, I’m originally from Northern Cali too!

Where in NorCal? I lived in San Francisco for four years but am originally from Seattle! It’s SO scary and SO risky to quit and move, but ya know what? Life is short and sometimes you just have to do something for you!

I was born and raised in Humboldt – about 6 hours north of SF…but have family all over the Bay Area. My brother lives in Seattle. So beautiful up there! And yes, I agree 100% – life is too short to not take crazy risks like this!

  2. Hey Rachel!!

Glad to read someone else’s posts on the sometimes wacky, but always beautiful Malta! Your experience regarding the residence visa made me laugh very hard, but then also made me very nervous! I hope I get there on a day it’s actually OPEN!

Hope you’re enjoying yourself – can’t wait to read more!

Hello! Nice to meet you and I wish you well with your new life. I moved to London last year when my partner was transferred for work. I love living in a foreign place, but I’m still figuring things out. Like what I want to be when I grow up. Good luck with everything!

I LOVE the concept of your blog! It’s great to have quests and goals like yours! My BIG BIG goal is to travel to all 7 continents in my lifetime. I am considering revising it. I will turn 30 in February and (after January) will have been to 5 of the 7. So, I am thinking, maybe make it to visit all 7 continents before I turn 50.

It’s comforting in knowing that you are still trying to figure things out in a foreign place, everyday I have new challenges and it’s only been 3 months! I, also, am not sure what I want to be. But, I suppose, that with three Master degrees (Sports, Business and Marketing): Sports Marketing seems to be a good fit! Good luck to you too!

I’ve only been to three continents but I hope to add the 4th in 2014. I wish you luck with everything. I have two BAs and one MA. I’m doing my best to start a writing career. We’ll see how that goes over the next year. Good luck with sports marketing!
